Music Discovery Methods That Only Work in Zimbabwe
Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing and More
Whether you are an established artist or one that’s on the rise, it’s always in your best interests to amplify the discovery of your music assuming that it’s good. If it’s wack, I guess, at least to let the masses decide for themselves.
The obvious first option is to just be on radio. Simple case closed!
However, that’s not always as easy. The radio stations already get a tonne of submissions, and curators have a gradiose attitude, where they can over-look the next hit because radio doesn’t always employ people that are exactly qualified to curate what we do.
That’s okay too. That’s why we have to create these platforms and try our best to implement the following tactics, strategies and so on. So that radio mainstream media can finally pick some of you up when you are 1 km away from success… and take all the credit.
I digress…
So the main issue wewant to speak on here is discovery.
1 . Use Law 6 From 48 Laws of Power - Court Attention At All Costs
If you have never heard of something it doesn’t exist - at least in your world. So the first step to getting people to consider any product or service even outside music is to make a large number of people aware of it.
Like anything, any mechanism you use may have mixed reactions. Yet every artist you deem succesful is not liked by everyone either.
You chose this path. You said you wanted to be a celestial icon. As such you have to live with the fact that you have to be creative around creating attention to your brand and your music. - Period!
Stop judging other artists for clout chasing and whining about how they only get numbers because “they are always looking for attention”.
That’s like a hunter crying about, “Well he shoots more Antelope because he is always looking for it”'
Wake UP! - Get attention by how you talk, how you dress, what you do.
It does not have to e controversial. It could be your street team wearing t-shirts with your album title liasing with Harare City to pick litter or slash off grass.
The pictures will soon circulate around social media. - Some people will judge it as a gimmik as fake, but thy are still commenting. Some people will argue with those people.
Yet the bottom line will be in the eyes of the algorithm of whichever platform you do it on, that becomes good contentbased on that massive engagement, which gets the post more free promo. -
That’s brand awareness. Since I can’t teach you everything…. NEXT
2. Fish where the fish are - Be everywhere, where people already find what they already listen to!
If people discover your type of music in Churches. Find a way to have your record performed or played in Churches.
If people that you target are more likely to find music on Tik Tok, then infiltrate Tik Tok.
If they want to hear you in a Shebeen, pirate similar artists in a virtual DJ Mix or something and strategicall put your own music in between and give the Shebeen queen a free flash drive with all those songs. Flirt with her even, if it’s demanded of you!
Cringe?
You want this dream or what?
Music discovery could be you collaborating with someone who already has an audience. They will probably charge you. If they don’t repost the track… do a diss record. - Works the same way!
Skip political rallies though. That’s corny!
3 . Just bribe people at radio!
Or succumb to their romantic advances toward you. The outcomes are more important.
Don’t say that you want to bribe them. That’s wrong. Don’t use words like Payola, use words like Coca-Cola!
Just say, “Ko madhiri anotambika here… itirai wo mfanha wenyu something?
Don’t forget to use protection!
4. Ask Roki where the cheapest bots are
All above information is of no significance if you don’t know where to get bot views in a changani bag like Roki’s team did some years back.
Well a few other artists have also done so.
Apparenty the social proof may drive interest. This one do at your own risk!
5. Nah don’t apply number 4 just do real advertising
You may hurt your channel or platform by doing bot views, the previous suggestion was entirely satirical.
However paid advertising to real targeted audiences is always a good investment.
Supposing you have great music.
But come on guys, if Silent Killer can make it whilst going off-beat to the rhythm. I doubt you can be that bad.
It's number 4 for me . Hahahahaha
